Spring is here. That feels so good to write that we are going to do it again. Spring is here! A new season and warmer weather means a change in your everyday beauty routine. Months of harsh winter weather means our skin is crying out for a little TLC. The good news is that even a few small changes in your routine will have an impact on the health of your skin. Here are five tips from our spa team on how to change up your skincare for spring.
Moisturizer
Winter weather means dry skin. It’s essential that we rebuild our skin and replenish the moisture that was lost. Sunflower oil and vitamin E double as a moisturizer and a skincare protectant, trapping moisture inside skin cells to keep skin hydrated. Look out for alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy acids, which help replenish dry skin. To remove dead skin cells and leave your skin glowing, try. Avoid using heavy creams in the spring as they can clog pores and pimples. Look for serum, lotions, or hydrating gels rather than creams.
Exfoliate or Cleanse
Spoiler alert: the answer is both. Exfoliating is integral to ridding your skin of any dry, rough layers left over from the winter. When you’re looking for the best scrub, choose ingredients like brown sugar, or scrubs that contain beta hydroxy acids. Exfoliating should only happen once or twice a week, but cleansing should occur twice a day. Because you are cleansing so frequently, use a mild, unscented cleanser to ensure your skin won’t be irritated.
“Bring Back” The SPF
So SPF is a must-have year-round, but cold weather tends to make us forget. When the weather gets warmer, we tend to use more sunscreen. Look for non-chemical sunscreens with ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, as these do are gentler on the skin than harsh chemicals. Apply sunscreen every morning and reapply it again before any outdoor activity during the day.
Add An Eye Cream
Longer days and brighter sunlight are fantastic, but up the amount of time spent squinting. To combat the fine lines and wrinkles that can form around the eyes, find an eye cream with a high concentration of antioxidants and peptides. The two ingredients work to ward off the effects of UVA rays and plump the fine lines and wrinkles that have already formed.
Go To A Pro For A Peel
For deeper renewal of the skin, add some spa time to kick off spring. We have a full menu of facials and peels that will help remove dead skin cells and unleash a new layer of skin underneath, which is typically smoother and less wrinkled. Talk to our spa staff to see what type of peel is best for your skin type.
These small changes will have you in the spring spirit, preparing your skin for the sunny skies, beach days, and boating adventures ahead!
