Snowshoeing in Ontario: Discover Iconic Winter Landscapes

Winter in Ontario lasts a bit longer than some of us would like, but there’s no denying there is something magical about the season. Gently rolling hills and expansive vistas glisten with snow along the Georgian Bay, creating a tranquil setting for outdoor adventures.


Snowshoeing in Ontario is an excellent way to connect with nature this winter and reflect on the beauty of the season. Rawley Resort is located near several snowshoeing trails where you can discover the region’s history, nature, and iconic landscapes. 



Tay Shore Trail is the closest snowshoeing trail to Rawley Resort, approximately ten minutes away. The paved pathway offers 18 km of snowshoeing routes through rivers, ponds, forests, and open field areas. The route was once a railroad, and there are now signs to learn about local history along the way.



A 25-minute drive from Rawley, you will find the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. The centre has over 25km of trails open for snowshoers and cross-country skiers. The woodland and wetland trails offer a diverse range of landscapes to explore during the winter. The Graham McDonald Trail is a 2.7km route open exclusively for snowshoers. 



Copeland Forest offers the most extensive snowshoeing trails near Rawley Resort. This area features 80 km of trails winding through scenic valleys and ridges. Copeland Forest is an excellent destination for snowshoers of all abilities, with beginner trails and backcountry options for advanced routes. 


Horseshoe Resort is located on the outskirts of the forest and offers snowshoeing and cross country skiing without going into the backcountry. There are dozens of free trails to explore in Copeland Forest if you are comfortable hitting the trails on your own!



Mountainview Ski Centre is in Midland, a 25-minute drive from Rawley. There is over 25km of groomed ski and snowshoes trails available here. The trails here are relatively flat and perfect for beginners of all ages. Snowshoe rentals are also available on-site, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your equipment.
