Updated: Sep 13, 2023

Muskoka Discovery Centre

Muskoka is a region rich in history and tradition; stay at the historic Rawley Resort and make the trip to the Muskoka Discovery Centre. This year-round museum offers exhibits and experiences for every age, from the interactive KidZone to North America’s largest antique collection of wooden boats. And when summer rolls around, you can cruise around Muskoka Lakes on one of the oldest operating steamships. Experience the storied history of Muskoka firsthand by staying at our historic resort, and plan your escape to the Georgian Bay today!

The Water Gallery

This gallery highlights the importance of the Muskoka Watershed to local heritage and economy. Then explore the Water Is Life exhibit to learn about Indigenous populations’ relationship with water resources.

Early History Main Floor Gallery

This gallery features exhibits on settlers, steamships, hotels, and wooden boats. Watch educational videos, participate in old-fashioned resort activities, and witness a boat builders’ workshop.

Marvel at the most extensive collection of antique wooden boats in North America at the Boathouse Gallery. Read about the fascinating stories of each boat at the end of each slip.

The Muskoka Discovery Centre offers something for all ages with hands-on activities in the KidZone. There are a wealth of STEAM activities available, from programable robots to sand tables.

Special programs and events are hosted throughout the year; check out the schedule before your visit!

Muskoka Steamships are not open year-round, but cruises around Lake Muskoka are a popular summer pastime here. Our steamship heritage is older than Canada; we invite you to cruise around on a piece of history while you’re here. The RMS Segwun has sailed over 130 years and is North America’s oldest operating steamship. They also have Wanda II and Wenonah II in their fleet.

Cruises are available in one-hour to two-hour options. Or sign up for a specialty cruise like their annual Canada Day fireworks cruise or the pirate adventure cruise, perfect for families! Keep in mind that cruises sail rain or shine and that tickets are non-refundable.

Private boat voyage of the Trent Severn Waterway

After your trip to the Muskoka Discovery Centre, return to Rawley Resort and bask in the region’s natural beauty. Warm up during the winter with a revitalizing treatment at our spa, or enjoy a private boat voyage of the Trent Severn Waterway during the summer. However you want to spend your getaway, our beautifully appointed suites await you after a day of adventures!
